Kincraig BESS in South Australia waived through by feds
Published Date : 2026-May-8, Friday
The federal environmental regulator has decided TagEnergy’s Kincraig
BESS project, to be located east of Naracoorte in regional South Australia, will
not require approval under the EPBC Act.
The proposed 150 MW / 600 MWh project site is on private land adjacent to the ElectraNet 132 kV Kincraig sub-station.
If approved, it’s expected 60 jobs will be created during construction with four ongoing operational roles required.
Kincraig still requires approvals under the South Australian state government’s Hydrogen and Renewables Act, for which public consultation closed last December.
Previous developer ACE Power was acquired by TagEnergy in August 2025.
Kincraig BESS is one of 13 battery projects TagEnergy has under development across Australia with a total capacity of 5.42 GW /25.28 GWh (see graphic).
