The revised Paling Yards Wind Farm proposal has been submitted to the DCCEEW for federal environmental approvals.

Global Power Generation (GPG) is planning to build the 287 MW wind farm south of Oberon in the New South Wales Central Tablelands, within Oberon Shire Council LGA.

The main components of the project include up to 47 wind turbine generators with an estimated capacity of up to 6.1 MW each, an onsite 33/132kV collector sub-station, approximately 7km of a 132kV overhead powerline, and an onsite 132/500kV switching sub-station to connect to the TransGrid’s existing 500kV Mount Piper to Bannaby transmission line.

These will be installed across a total project area of approximately 4663 hectares, containing a disturbance footprint of approximately 577ha.

It’s estimated construction will take 22 months.

A development approval application for Paling Yards Wind Farm was originally submitted in 2010 for a project with 59 turbines at the same location, which was consequently withdrawn in 2020 after attracting community opposition.

A fresh state approval development application was submitted to the NSW planning authority in 2022 with the number of turbines reduced to the current 47.

The project’s EIS attracted around 250 submissions when put on public exhibition, with the majority objecting. The NSW Department of Planning has asked GPG to respond to these submissions.
