Massive wind farms planned in NSW and Victoria

A scoping report for Neoen Energy’s proposed Bondo Wind Farm, to be located within the softwood
plantations near Bondo - approximately 20km east of Tumut in NSW, is being
assessed by the state planning authority.
The proposal is for a wind farm with up to 149 turbines for approximately 1200 MW capacity to be built within an overall project area of approximately 41,883 hectares.
Two battery energy storage systems of 400 MW/1600 MWh capacity each are also planned.
The site has three existing transmission lines running through it for potential grid connection.
The investigation area falls within the boundaries of Snowy Valley Council, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council and Yass Valley Council.
It is likely the wind farm would be built in two or three stages, depending on the outcome of the development application process and grid connection availability.
Construction is estimated to take 4 to 6 years, with a peak workforce of approximately 500-600 required and approximately 10–20 ongoing operational roles.
It is proposed that an accommodation facility will be developed for the project within or close to the project area, potentially housing 400-500 workers.
Neoen was awarded a permit by the Forestry Corporation of NSW to investigate the project in May last year after a 15-month tender process.
At an early stage of development, Cubico Sustainable Investments has started ecological assessments for its proposed Curyo Wind Farm and Battery Project to be located in the Mallee region of western Victoria.
The project will include up to 162 wind turbines with a total capacity of 1000 MW and a BESS of yet-to-be disclosed capacity.
The project could create over 300 jobs during the construction phase and up to 20 permanent roles once operational.
Planning referrals for the Curyo Wind Farm are anticipated to be lodged by the end of this year.
