Alternate Path’s proposed 250 MW Weasel
Solar Farm and BESS in the Central Highlands region of Tasmania has been
declared a non-controlled action by the federal DCCEEW under the EPBC Act.
To be located 9km north of Bothwell, the project will be coupled with a battery energy storage system and connect directly to an existing 220kV transmission line running through the site.
The solar farm will be constructed in a way to enable the continued use of the land for grazing sheep underneath the solar panels.
The total development area of the project covers approximately 435 hectares, of which solar arrays will cover approximately 270 hectares.
It's proposed that Weasel Solar Farm, the adjoining Cellars Hill Wind Farm, and a future renewable energy business park will eventually form a Highlands Renewable Energy Hub.
Approval from the Central Highlands Council is still required for Weasel Solar Farm to go ahead.
