Developer planning legacy accommodation asset for its wind farm project

Zephyr Energy, a partnership between Atmos Renewables and
Parron Developments, is taking a positive approach to the problems of workers accommodation
for its approved Parron Maam Marang Wind Farm near Badgingarra, approximately
200km north of Perth in WA.
Zephyr is proposing to construct and operate the Badgingarra Workers Accommodation Village on the southern edge of Badgingarra town within the Shire of Dandaragan.
In a project referral to the federal DCCEEW, Zephyr wrote the “proposed action will provide a fit-for-purpose, mid-scale workers accommodation facility to support construction of the approved 489 MW Parron Wind Farm, located approximately 11 km north of Badgingarra”.
The facility will accommodate the wind farm construction workforce between late 2026 and late 2029.
Construction of the wind farm, which will require a peak workforce of approximately 300 people, “would place significant pressure on existing local accommodation infrastructure throughout the region if temporary accommodation is not provided”.
Zephyr is planning to complete construction of the accommodation village over 6-9months, to open the facility in Q4 this year.
It’s expected Zephyr will require the facility for approximately three years to house the wind farm workforce, before it is handed over to the Yued Aboriginal Corporation (YAC) for ongoing management.
The intention is to provide YAC with “a long-term commercial opportunity through income generation, asset ownership, and skills development”, with the facility able to support other renewable energy or infrastructure projects or be repurposed for short-stay accommodation for tourism, regional events, or seasonal workers.
The Badgingarra Workers Accommodation Villa project area covers approximately 3.9 hectares of Unallocated Crown Land which is reserved for the Noongar Boodja Trust under the South West Native Title Settlement.
The Parron Maam Marang Wind Farm received its final planning and environmental approvals in May last year.
The project will feature 78 Vestas V162-6.2 MW turbines.
