Revera pushes BESS ahead of solar at Robertstown

Revera Energy has rejigged the Robertstown Solar Farm &
BESS project, to be located in the mid-North region of South Australia, to
place more emphasis on first building a Stage 1 250 MW / 1000 MWh battery.
Under the guidance of previous developer Amp Energy, the project was approved in 2018 as a plus-630 MW DC solar farm, with consequent variations allowing an increase in the BESS to 500 MW / 1000 MWh.
Revera’s latest plan will see a 500 MW / 2000 MWh battery built in two equal stages individually financed and contracted.
In a referral for its Robertstown BESS project, submitted to the federal DCCEEW, Revera said “At this time, the BESS is an economically viable development”.
According to Revera, “Solar farms are not currently assessed as economically viable in South Australia. No further development to the (up to) 500 MW photovoltaic solar farm is therefore underway.
“Revera will continue to monitor key valuation parameters, with a view to reassess developing the (up to) 500 MW photovoltaic solar farm stage- if material improvements arise.”
The combined solar farm and BESS project was planned on approximately 1800 hectares of cleared land, connecting into the National Electricity Market through a 275kV line to ElectraNet’s Robertstown Sub-station located nearby.
Revera Energy acquired Amp Energy in May 2025.
Revera is also developing the approved 300 MW Robertstown East Solar project adjacent to the Robertstown project site.
