Solar smaller, BESS bigger in Texas

FRV Australia has modified the configuration of its proposed Texas Solar Farm and BESS in far northern NSW, just south of the Queensland border near the town of Texas.
The BESS component has been substantially beefed up from the originally planned 200 MW / 400 MWh, and now has a proposed capacity of up to 550 MW / 2200 MWh. At the same time the solar PV capacity has been dialled back from 400 MW AC to 200 MW.
The revised design, as outlined in the project’s federal EPBC Act referral recently submitted to the DCCEEW, features approximately 550,000 panels mounted on single-axis tracking systems, and containerised battery modules installed near a sub-station which will connect the project to the grid via an underground or overhead 330 kV transmission line.
The project will connect to the existing 330kV Bulli Creek to Dumaresq overhead transmission line which crosses the north-western half of the site.
Construction start is estimated to be 2026, with up to 200 workers required during construction and 4 to 5 full time equivalent ongoing operational roles created.
